Beamish Visit

To support our Tommy Armstrong – The Pitman Poet topic, we visited Beamish Museum to re enact the Oakeys Strike Evictions at the pit village. During the morning, we also put on our hard hats and went down the mine, we took a ride on a tram into the Victorian Town and had a quick lesson in a Victorian classroom. image

100 word challenge… Can you write 100 words about this situation?

Imagine you are a poor mining family and that one cold November morning, you are evicted from your home. Your family and all your possessions are thrown out into the street. It is snowing and an icy wind is blowing. The back door is firmly locked and the key given to the Polis. You have no money and nowhere to go. What will happen to you all? How do you feel? Who will help?

Good luck 🙂

The Iron Man

In year 3 and 4 we have been reading the story of the Iron Man by author Ted Hughes.

Can you read this opener then continue the chapter using your own ideas. Remember to include ideas linked to your personal LTT.

One day there came strange news. Everybody was talking about it. Round eyes, busy mouths, frightened voices – everybody was talking about it. ……

Good luck 🙂

SHAPE WORK

We have been investigating 2D shapes.

What do you know about horizontal and vertical lines?

What can you tell me about parallel and perpendicular?

How many sides does a quadrilateral have?

What else have you learnt about 2D shapes?
